I like to do this from time to time! Feel free to prepare your questions as we watch our favourite Fire Ant colony (the Phoenix Empire) feast on roaches. SUPERCHATS ensure a live shout out, as well as a dedicated roach tossed into the feeding chamber in your name! Let’s sit back and enjoy watching the ants feed on their roaches.
LIVE STREAM + Q&A: LIVE Feeding My Fire Ants ROACHES for YOU
Live Stream Begins
Welcome back to the channel! If you’re looking for the live stream, I apologize—where I live, the internet isn’t very fast. But guys, welcome!
I like to do these live streams every now and then because I find them very interactive, and I see great value in answering a lot of your questions. You know, this is different from our usual videos that are highly produced, edited, and have multiple cuts. It’s really a different experience when you’re watching the ants in real-time—no time-lapse, no jump cuts, just the ants.
Right now, the most popular colony on the channel is the Phoenix Empire. We’ve watched them grow from just a single pregnant queen ant in a test tube, and they have now amassed into a massive colony. Today, they’re really hungry because I haven’t fed them yet, so they’re waiting for their roach. I believe they can already smell it.
For those of you just tuning in now, thank you so much! Be sure to hit the LIKE button if you’re enjoying this live stream. I really appreciate the support, guys!
Also, a cool thing about this live stream is that if you send in a Super Chat, I’ll give you a shoutout, and I’ll drop a cockroach into the feeding chamber on your behalf! Just let me know if you’d like a cockroach added in your name by sending a Super Chat—but only if you’d like to. Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the view!
Feeding the Ants
Alright, I’m going to add the roach now!
Thank you, Doc On Que Le You for the $2.79 Super Chat! I’ll be putting in a couple of roaches for you. Done!
Jonathan Stevens just donated—OMG, I’m going to need several cockroaches here! It takes me a while because I have to cut the cockroaches up just to make sure they’re dead. Although a lot of you guys like watching the cockroaches struggle, I kind of don’t.
Alright, this one is from Jonathan—there you go! Now, they’re struggling because insects have a different kind of nervous system. Their brains are not centralized like ours; instead, they have ganglia running down their bodies, which means that even when they’re cut up, they can still move.
Now, what’s going to happen is that the fire ants will see this food and instantly enter their food response mode. They’ll fill the area with pheromones to let other ants know that there’s food available. Then, they’ll run back to the nest and inform the rest of the colony.
Wow, you guys are sending in so many Super Chats! Thank you so much!
Alright, let me do some shoutouts:
•Cory, thank you for the $2.99!
•Cameron Talia, thank you for the $10!

Okay, you guys just sent in all your Super Chats at once, so I’m going to drop in a huge cockroach on behalf of all of you!
Here it is—this one’s the biggest roach so far.

Your support means a lot to me, guys, and to the ants, as you’re about to see! I’m just going to keep adding roaches now.
Why Do Fire Ants Attack So Quickly?
Look at all those ants filing in now. They are rushing toward the food!
Fire ants have two powerful weapons:
1.Jaws (Mandibles) – They use their sharp mandibles to cut through their food.
2.Stingers – Fire ants have a venomous sting, which injects a neurotoxin called Solenopsin (named after their genus, Solenopsis).
I’ve been stung many times by these ants, and trust me, it is NOT fun.
Oh, I just got stung, guys! Ouch! One of them climbed up my scissors and got me. That was painful!
Ant-Keeping Tips & Escaped Colony Incident
For those of you who want to get into ant-keeping, now is the perfect time to start! It’s breeding season in the Northern Hemisphere, which means queen ants are flying.
We have tutorials on:
• How to find queen ants
• How to differentiate a queen from a worker ant
• How to care for your ant colony
As you can see with this colony, with patience and care, you can grow a massive ant empire!
Speaking of colonies, let me tell you what happened two days ago—
I woke up in the morning and found ants EVERYWHERE! They had escaped and created trails throughout the entire ant room.
I freaked out, quickly checked their ant farms, and thankfully, they hadn’t moved the brood. That was a good sign because if the brood moves, it usually means the queen is moving too.
I had to vacuum up thousands of fire ants and return them to the setup. Lesson learned: Fire ants are NOT for the faint of heart! They grow fast and are hard to contain.
Final Super Chats & Closing Thoughts
Wow, you guys are amazing! More shoutouts:
•Brian Heywood—thank you for the $10 Super Chat!
•Techie Debrett, $20—appreciate the support!
•Bazooka, 5 NZD—thank you!
•Shadow Gamer XX, $5—thanks for loving the Phoenix Empire!
Oh, one last huge roach for you guys—this one is a Madagascar hissing cockroach! Sorry, buddy!
Ant Society & Colony Growth
Something cool about ants:
•Only the oldest workers are allowed to leave the nest.
•Young ants stay inside to care for the queen and young.
• This ensures new ants aren’t exposed to danger too soon.
Ant societies are super organized and efficient!
